2012 Broadway Show #27 – April 11: The Lyons
Apr 12th
This is now the third time that I have seen this show, first on broadway. I think its a really great family drama where Linda Lavin is just a completely ridiculous mother judging her kids ever move while the father dies. My Broadway favorite Michael Esper has a wonderful role as the gay son with a mess of a life. It was a different experience in the larger theatre – there was really something about the small space at the vineyard that made it much more personal. Also, where was the missing scene? It was listed the the playbill but didn’t happen. Very confusing!
2012 Broadway Show #26 – April 10: Peter And The Starcatcher
Apr 11th
Well now I have 2 favorite shows on Broadway at the same time! Thankfully this is a play so it falls under a different Tony award category and I can cheer for both. Starcatcher was cleaver and hilarious. VERY modern in the approach – super quick dialogue which I love! I really do believe that I was in tears from laughing at a few points. And I totally agree with boy, I HATE GROWNUPS!
2012 Broadway Show #25 – April 5: A Streetcar Named Desire
Apr 5th
So many things to say about this show…first and foremost it was a wonderful production cast incredibly well! Its not a happy story but it certainly had funny MOMENTS and Blair as Stanley was perfect casting.
No the major downside…the audience. It was no doubt about it 100% the worst theatre audience I have ever personally experienced. The curtain was held for almost 30 minutes due to latecomers, when Blaire came on stage people were screaming – not clapping – for him as if in that moment he was Blaire Underwood and not Stanley the terrible evil husband. It was so disappointing to me to be surrounded by people laughing at the rape scene and forget it – when someone yelled STELLA back at him I would have gotten up and left if I was on the aisle. It was so disrespectful to the performers. I really hope this theatre will learn to keep the audience in check if they want this show to last!
